In 2018, a new exhibit about our two exterior displayed vessels, 'The Swan' (steamboat) and 'Tatoosh II' (local boom boat), will be developed and displayed in our gallery. Funds will be used for the printing of large text and photo plaques; included will also be a small TV with a DVD attachment which will verbally explain operations of these two vessels in our local and regional marine environment. Based upon pricing research, we anticipate $1,500 will be required for the printing and TV costs.
Also, the Society will be completing the cribbing structure on which 'The Swan' rests and will be constructing a raised viewing platform so visitors can peer into the steamboats interior. Most materials we have, and we will try to use as much volunteer labour as possible. The Society has $3,684 remaining from a 2017 $5,000 grant from the Alberni-Clayoquot Reginal District for this purpose. Should costs exceed this amount, we will fund from our internally fund balance.
